Anas Ahmed Nabih El-Fiqqi

Anas Ahmed Nabih El-Fiqqi ( Arabic أنس أحمد نبيه الفقي, DMG Anas Aḥmad Nabīh al-Fiqqī ; * October 1, 1960 in Cairo , al-Gharbiyya ) is an Egyptian politician .

Life

Anas Ahmed Nabih El-Fiqqi studied business administration at the University of Cairo until 1983 , after which he devoted himself to the sale of books, published them from 1987 and arranged translation services. He is a close friend of Gamal Mubarak . In January 2004 he became head of the General Organization for Cultural Palaces , where he introduced modern technology, and then replaced Ali El Deen Hilal Dessouki as Minister of Youth and Sports. During a reshuffle of the Nazif cabinet on February 15, 2005, Anas Ahmed Nabih El-Fiqqi took the chair of the information minister . As head of the information ministry, he announced that he would make this agency superfluous and transfer most of the control functions to an agency that is modeled after the successful telecommunications regulatory agency. He also suggested privatizing all Egyptian radio and television companies with the exception of Channel 1 , Channel 2 and Nile TV.

When in November 2009, after leaving the premises of the Cairo airport, busses of the Algerian national football team were pelted with stones and three Algerian national players were injured, El-Fiqqi explained on Egyptian television that Algerians are barbaric people who are violating their values demonstrate.

As part of the 2011 revolution in Egypt , El-Fiqqi was placed under house arrest on February 12, 2011 by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces on suspicion of corruption and resigned from his ministerial office. He was charged and sentenced to seven years in prison on September 28, 2011 for corruption. Together with him, the court sentenced the former chairman of the state television, Usama el-Sheikh, to five years in prison.
