Martyrdom of St. Basilissa and Anastasia in the Menologion of Basil II.

Basilissa and Anastasia († around 68 - according to German literature 66 - in Rome ) were two of the earliest Christian martyrs .

They were wealthy Roman matrons and pupils of the apostles Peter and Paul . According to tradition, they used their wealth to have the bodies of martyrs dignified, including those of the two apostles. This was what Emperor Nero heard. Basilissa and Anastasia were then arrested and tortured without renouncing their belief. According to tradition, Nero became so angry that he tore out their tongues and finally had them beheaded with the sword.

Their feast day in the Martyrologium Romanum was April 15th, with the creation of the feast day of the first martyrs of Rome these martyrs will be commemorated on June 30th. Relics of the two saints are in the Church of Santa Maria della Pace in Rome.
