Anatakupu Island is an uninhabited island belonging to Nelson west of Lucky Bay in the southeast of D'Urville Island . It is located northeast of the French Pass , the passage between D'Urville Island and the South Island of New Zealand.
Because a cargo ship ran aground in the French Pass, it was recommended in 1998 that a beacon be erected on the island to improve navigation.
The island, which measures only about 120 m in an east-west direction and 75 m in a north-south direction, is located about 750 m off the coast of D'Urville Island.
