from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anatol Sergius Potok , sometimes incorrectly transcribed from Russian to Anatol Potock , in Israel אנטול פוטוק (born May 1, 1892 in Russia ; died October 16, 1986 in Israel ) was a Polish-Russian-American silent film actor , film producer , production manager and (in exile) import and export merchant.

Live and act

Almost nothing is known about Potok's origins and career. His place of birth was in tsarist Russia, the first years after the First World War he must have stayed in the resurrected Poland, as his daughter, later Helen Loewy, was born there in 1922. A little later the family moved to Germany, where Anatol Potok can be proven in 1927 as an actor in Lothar Stark's film drama The White Slave . With the start of the sound film era, Potok was given the opportunity by producer Stark to oversee the production of German sound films and the corresponding French language versions for his Berlin company as production manager.

The seizure of power by the National Socialists in 1933 meant the professional end of the Jew Potok in Germany. As a result, the family fled to France, where Helen Potok went to school in Paris. In 1936 the Potok family emigrated to what was then the British Mandate of Palestine . Little is known about Potok's life in exile. The family initially lived in Tel Aviv. From June 1944 Potok's partnership as an equal partner of a certain Max Harari in an import and export company ("Foreign Trade Company") and Potok's naturalization in 1947. In 1952 he traveled to the USA and lived there in New York City . What he did there is currently unknown. Apparently Anatol Potok, now with a US citizenship in his luggage, later returned to Israel and spent his old age there. He was buried in the Kfar Shmaryahu cemetery.
