Anatoly Gavrilowitsch Ufimzew
Anatoli Gavrilowitsch Ufimzew ( Russian Анатолий Гаврилович Уфимцев , scientific transliteration Anatolij Gavrilovič Ufimcev ; born May 11, 1914 in Omsk ; † July 2, 2000 in Qostanai ) was a Soviet theoretic master of Chazakh and Soviet .
Life
Ufimzew, an economist by profession, spent most of his life in Kazakhstan , where he won the national chess championship ten times. In 1946 he became the master of sports of the USSR . He often took part in the semifinals of the USSR championships , but only managed to qualify for the 15th championship in Leningrad in 1947 . He finally shared 13th to 15th place, but won victories over Wassili Smyslow and Salo Flohr . Ufimzew's theoretical exploration of the opening system 1. e2 – e4 d7 – d6 2. d2 – d4 Ng8 – f6 3. Nb1 – c3 g7 – g6 led to the fact that it was baptized in his name in Russian-speaking countries : the Pirc-Ufimzew defense . In December 1947, Umfimzew had its highest historical rating of 2573.
