Anatoly Novikov

Anatolij Terentowytsch Novikow ( Ukrainian Анатолій Терентьович Новіков ; born January 17, 1947 in Kharkiv , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Soviet judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1972.

The 1.74 m tall Novikow competed in the light middleweight up to 70 kg. In 1971 he took third place in the Polish Open Championships, in 1972 he won this tournament. At the European Championships in 1972 he won the title with the Soviet team. In the individual competition he won the silver medal behind Dietmar Hötger from the GDR.

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he was defeated in the semifinals against the eventual Olympic champion Toyokazu Nomura from Japan. In the battle for the bronze medal, he defeated Engelbert Dörbandt from the Federal Republic of Germany. 1973 Novikov won with the Soviet team at the European Championships. At the World Championships in Lausanne he lost to Dietmar Hötger and received the bronze medal.

Novikov was the Soviet sambo master in 1970 and the Soviet judo master in 1973. He competed for Dynamo Kharkiv . After his active time he worked as a trainer.
