Anatra Voisin-Ivanov

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Anatra Voisin-Iwanow was a Russian military aircraft .

The Voisin-Iwanow was the result of the revision and improvement of a French Voisin LAS built under license by Arturo Antonowitsch Anatra in a troop workshop in Schmerynka . A new fuselage nacelle with clear lines was installed, the observer housed in the front seat received a movable machine gun. An aluminum fire bulkhead was inserted between the engine with pusher propeller and the tank, and the tank itself was protected against fire. A third wing spar was installed, all wing spars were now made of steel tubes. The wing struts now consisted of elliptical steel tubes or were given oval wood paneling. Because of the increased mass, the chassis had to be reinforced.

The flight tests showed very good results; despite the increased mass, the machine was 20 km / h faster than the original Voisin LAS with the same engine power. It was therefore decided to replace the French original pattern in the Russian license production at Anatra with this new variant. Between 1916 and 1917, more than 150 machines were built, some of which remained in service until 1922.
