Anaxagoras is an impact crater on the moon far north on the lunar front . It overlies the older Goldschmidt crater in the east. Further to the southeast is Barrow Crater . The crater is relatively young, has a ray system and the crater rim is hardly eroded. Inside there is a central mountain .

The crater was named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek philosopher and astronomer Anaxagoras .
