Ancistronycha tigurina is a beetle fromthe soft beetle family (Cantharidae). The genus Ancistronycha is represented in Europe with 6 species, in Central Europe 3 species occur.

features

The beetles are 11 to 14 millimeters long. They have a variable color. The head is at least partially reddish brown behind the eyes. The pronotum and scutellum are yellow-red, the elytra are blue-black. The femora and tibia of the yellow-red legs are darkened. Some specimens have a dark spot on the top. There are also forms in which the head, pronotum and legs are black. The dorsal shield of the aedoeagus is heavily edged in the middle.

distribution

Ancistronycha tigurina occurs almost in all of Central Europe. The distribution area of ​​the beetle species extends in the north to Fennoscandinavia , but the species is absent on the British Isles . In the south, the occurrence does not extend to the Mediterranean, but in the east to Russia.

Way of life

The beetles are mainly found in forest areas, especially in low mountain ranges. The flight time lasts from May to July. The beetles feed mainly in a predatory manner.

Taxonomy

The definition of a valid scientific species epithet (name affix ) is difficult, since previously used terms of the beetle species (these would be violacea and cyanipennis in particular ) were already used for other species descriptions at the time of their publication.
