Andara

Andara is a settlement in the constituency of Mukwe in the Kavango-East region in northeastern Namibia . With the surrounding settlements of Diyogha and Dyapanga, Andara has around 5000 inhabitants. Andara is located on the west bank of the Okavango , above the Popa Falls and not far from the towns of Bagani and Mukwe at 1018  m .

Andara is close to the B8 national road . A hospital of the Roman Catholic Church in Namibia with 120 beds has been located in Andara since 1960 .

history

The Okavango Islands Tanhwe and Thipanana near Andara have been the residence of the Mbukushu kings since the early 19th century . As a result of a protection treaty with the kings, Andara was first considered as the site of a mission in 1909; However, it was not until 1913 that the Catholic Andara Mission was founded, which became the second oldest mission station in the Kavango after the Nyangana Mission founded in 1909 .
