Appearance

The distribution area of ​​the Andean pygmy owl stretches from the Andes of Venezuela, the north of Colombia and the middle and east of Ecuador to the north of Peru. It is a resident bird that inhabits semi-open mountain and cloud forests. Its height distribution ranges from 2,000 meters to 3,500 meters above sea level.

Way of life

Like many other pygmy owls, the Andean pygmy owl is partially diurnal. He is often noticed because small birds hate him . Its food spectrum consists of small birds, insects and small mammals. He usually hunts from a raised hide. He uses abandoned woodpecker holes as nesting holes. The clutch consists of three white eggs. Otherwise, reproductive biology is largely unexplored.
