The Andes mouse ( Andinomys edax ) is in South America living rodent species from the group of New world .

Andean mice have a stocky body, they reach a head body length of 14 to 17 centimeters and a tail length of 11 to 15 centimeters. The weight is 80 to 90 grams. Their fur is dark brown on the top and white-gray on the underside.

These animals inhabit the Altiplano region in southern Peru , western Bolivia , northern Chile, and northwestern Argentina . They occur at altitudes of 1700 to 4900 meters. They are nocturnal animals that often live on rocks or in thickets. But you can also climb trees and build nests there. Their diet consists of green plants.

According to the IUCN, the Andean mouse is not endangered.
