András Székely

András Székely (born August 5, 1929 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian musicologist and producer.

Life

From 1949 he studied at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, first choral conducting and then musicology until 1957 . From 1957 he worked for many years, initially as a recording manager and editor, then until 1992 as a producer for the Hungarian record companies Hungaroton and Quintana . He founded the Hungaroton Antiqua series . From 1974 he was also an employee and from 1988 to 1997 deputy editor-in-chief of the Hungarian music magazine Muzsika . In 1999 he took over the position of editor-in-chief of the musicological journal Magyar Zene .

In 1997 he became President of the Telemann Society . Georg Philipp Telemann's work forms a special focus in his professional activity , for example he produced various Telemann pieces, published editions of sheet music and translated Telemann's autobiographies into Hungarian . From 2001 he also held the presidency of the International Telemann Competition in Magdeburg , which he founded. He was committed to Telemann research. In the Hungarian Steinamanger he sponsored courses in early music . He also translated many music theory works from German into Hungarian.

Honors

In 2005 the city of Magdeburg awarded him the Georg-Philipp-Telemann-Prize of the state capital Magdeburg . On the occasion of the award ceremony, he also signed the city's Golden Book .
