Golden Book (Magdeburg)
The Golden Book is the book intended for the entry of guests of honor or citizens of the city of Magdeburg to be honored in a special way . It is run in the Magdeburg town hall .
history
The book was created on May 10, 1931 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the destruction of Magdeburg in the Thirty Years War by the Magdeburg Transport and Exhibition Office. The first entry was made by the then members of the city's magistrate under the leadership of Mayor Hermann Beims , who retired shortly afterwards on May 15, 1931.
The entries made from 1931 to 1949 have not been preserved today. The corresponding pages are considered not to be found.
From 1949 to 1985 the city of Magdeburg kept a memory book, some of which was also referred to as the Golden Book. In 1985, and thus still in the GDR era, the decision was made to continue the 1931 Golden Book. The first new entry was made again on May 10th with the entry of honorary citizen Igor Belikov made in 1985 . By the day of German reunification on October 3, 1990, eleven entries had been made. On October 3, 1990, an entry was made in honor of the day.
The book was continued through December 20, 2004. On the occasion of the city's 1200th anniversary in 2005, a new volume of the Golden Book began. Since November 2002 the city of Magdeburg has also kept a guest book.
Entries
The following entries can be found in the Golden Book (as of July 7, 2020). Of the eleven entries from 1985 to 1989, only three are listed here.

Text for the Day of German Unity: This inconspicuous page forms both an end and a starting point. It is an unspectacular evidence of an event that astonished, delighted and pondered many people in Germany and Europe - the collapse of the communist dictatorship in the GDR. This historical moment should also be mentioned in the "Golden Book" of the city of Magdeburg. When the freely elected magistrate took office in June 1990, the face of this book will also change. While it was previously shaped by the state party and its allies, including their ideology, today representatives of Magdeburg citizens decide on the honor of registration, in free decision. The coming pages will speak a clear language. | 3rd October 1990 | ||
