Ralph Scheide (born February 15, 1951 in Vienna ) is an Austrian diplomat .

Life

Ralph Scheide attended the Theresian Academy in Vienna from 1961 to 1969 and did military service as a one-year volunteer from 1969 to 1970. He studied law at the University of Vienna and language at the University of Lausanne , after which he completed legal practice from 1974 to 1975.

Scheide joined the foreign service of the Republic of Austria in 1975. From 1976 to 1980 he worked at the Austrian Embassy in Moscow (Russia) . After a position at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and the special organizations in Geneva , he worked in the economic policy section of the Foreign Ministry in Vienna from 1984 to 1987 . From 1987 to 1992 he was an advisor to Federal President Kurt Waldheim and from 1992 to 1994 he headed the General Secretariat of the Foreign Ministry. From 1994 to 1997 he was Deputy Cabinet Director of the Austrian Presidential Chancellery at Thomas Klestil .

Scheide was again appointed ambassador to Ankara from 1998 to 2001 as ambassador for Turkey . Back in Vienna, he headed the Near and Middle East and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2002 to December 2009 and from December 2003 was also deputy section head of the political section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Scheide was ambassador for Germany in Berlin from 2009 to January 2015 and then moved to Budapest as ambassador for Hungary .
