Anne Marjaana Sipiläinen (born October 1, 1961 in Lappee ) is a Finnish diplomat .

Life

She studied political science at the University of Helsinki , which she graduated with a Masters in 1986. From 1987 to 1988 she worked as an attaché in the political department of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was followed by an assignment at the Finnish embassy in the GDR in Berlin . In 1988, however, she returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and worked in the field of foreign trade. In 1989 she was the second secretary at the Finnish embassy in Austria in Vienna , until she was appointed first secretary in the field of development policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1994. From 1995 to 1998 there was another time in the political department. In 1998 she became director for Europe, in 2003 consultant and in 2004 deputy director general. In 2007 she took over the post of Finnish ambassador in Brussels to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union and as permanent representative to the Western European Union . In 2011 she became State Secretary for Development Policy in the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, until 2015 she became State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

On June 11, 2019, she was accredited as the Finnish Ambassador to Germany and is based at the Finnish Embassy in Berlin .

Personal

Sipiläinen is married and has two children born in 1995 and 2000. In addition to her native Finnish, she also speaks German , English , French and Swedish .
