Muhammad al Orabi ( Arabic محمد العرابي, DMG Muḥammad al-ʿUrābī ; Born January 26, 1951 ) is an Egyptian diplomat and politician. He was Foreign Minister in the cabinet of Essam Sharaf for 20 days during the 2011 revolution in Egypt . Orabi was also ambassador to Germany from 2003 to 2009 .

Foreign minister

Orabi succeeded Nabil Elaraby , who was elected Secretary General of the Arab League . His appointment has been criticized as he is considered a confidante of Gamal Mubarak . After just 20 days, he resigned on July 16, 2011 on the grounds that he no longer wanted to embarrass Prime Minister Sharaf . Two days later, on July 18, there was a major cabinet reshuffle, in which 14 new ministers were appointed.
