The State Horticultural Show Prenzlau is the fifth state horticultural show in the state of Brandenburg . After the city was awarded the contract to host the garden show on the occasion of the Green Week in Berlin, the Berlin landscape architecture firm ST raum a. the basic concept for the parks, which will be retained beyond the state horticultural show. The city should be more closely linked with the Unteruckersee . The state horticultural show staged this link as the “wedding of city and lake” and celebrated the festival of “green bliss” from April 13th to October 6th, 2013 .

In February 2008 Prenzlau applied as one of nine municipalities to host the State Horticultural Show 2013 and was awarded the contract in January 2009. In 2008 the landscape architecture office ST raum a. from Berlin for the city of Prenzlau the application for the state horticultural show.

An application for the State Garden Show 2009 , which was then held in Oranienburg , was previously unsuccessful.

Park and themed gardens

The garden show area extends from Unteruckersee to Prenzlau's old town and covers an area of 13 hectares. More than 800 trees and approx. 2,500 hedge plants plus many thousands more trees, over 1,000 roses and approx. 80,000 perennials, grasses and ferns were planted for the show. There was already a vineyard on the southern city wall in the 16th century. Planting around 200 vines follows on from this tradition. A correspondingly adapted planting follows the areas of the city wall that are not so sunny. The “ribbon of green bliss” meanders like a wedding band from the city park over the town hall square and the lake park to the Unteruckersee. The "delight" also speaks from the positive emotional terms for the individual garden elements, such as 'great fun', 'beautiful view', 'rose rush' or 'lust and mood'.

The theme gardens are circles of 120 to 180 m² in size, which are bordered by a hedge. They are located between the historic city wall and the Unteruckersee. Twelve gardens were designed under the motto of the garden show “The green delight”. Twelve gardens were chosen because the number twelve is the symbol of perfection. It is found in the twelve months of a year, the twelve lunar cycles and the twelve constellations of the zodiac.

Completely diverse - colorful types

Balcony boxes with colorful and diverse plantings are in the center of this garden. It is the goal of the garden to show the diverse planting possibilities.

Contrasts and opposites

In the garden the visitor will find desert-like terrain with lava rubble on one side. Only specialized plants that are adapted to their surroundings can survive in this terrain. On the other hand, the lush green vegetation of Central Europe can be experienced.

Kiss garden

Twelve spheres with the image The Kiss are arranged around a thirteenth so that they touch. The sculpture is surrounded by three circular herbaceous beds on each side at the edge of the garden.

Lively blooming garden

The surface design divides the garden with its moving relief into further rings. The planting is graduated in height and emphasizes the movement. In the center, within the accessible gravel bed, is a glowing torch lily.

Paradise garden

In the paradise garden you will find fruit trellises with regional old varieties, herbs and vegetables in the smallest of spaces as a stimulus for everyone who wants to create their own little “garden paradise”. The snake also has its place in this paradise garden.

The “cement garden” is designed as a contrast to paradise. He addresses the displacement of nature through soil sealing with concrete, cement and asphalt. Here you can find plants that reclaim terrain in this hostile environment for nature, e.g. B. thistles, grasses and milkweed plants. Shining highlights are steppe and mullein.

Scented garden

Different types of lavender transform the small garden area into a fragrant carpet of plants. The metal bowls above the lavender plants contain colored glass and other aromatic and herbal plants.

Szczecin - the energy of the city

A “waterway” made of glass stones leads to a beetroot. The garden was designed by the Polish twin city Szczecin.

Relax

A place to relax and enjoy the garden. Lying behind screens in the middle of a "sea of lavender" invite visitors to a moment of calm.

Garden fish

Fish rise up in columns of water and fish swim in the water of the pond, which is accessible via a wooden walkway. This shows the close connection to the Unteruckersee and its flora and fauna.

Grasses and more

The variety of grasses used - bamboo, Chinese reeds, sedges and bristle grass - on a small area shows how varied even small gardens can be. Wooden dolphins are an attraction for children.
