The Nature Garden Show in Tirschenreuth was a regional garden show in Bavaria, which took place from May 29 to August 25, 2013 in Tirschenreuth in the Upper Palatinate .

It was laid out around the Fischhof on a former fallow and industrial area.

history

canditature

In October 2004, the Tirschenreuth city council unanimously agreed to support the application to host the garden show “Nature in Tirschenreuth 2013”. The city had previously failed twice with its application. In April 2007, the evaluation committee visited the city and inspected the intended site. On April 13, 2007, the city of Tirschenreuth received the award for "Nature in Tirschenreuth 2013" from the award committee of the Society for the Promotion of the Bavarian State Garden Show.

Construction work

The tender for the overall planning of the event began in April 2009. Among the 20 works submitted from Germany and Switzerland went the office geskes.hack landscape architects from Berlin in mid-2009 as the winner. The rough concept previously drawn up by the landscape architect Martin Rist, to which the participants in the competition had to adhere, contained the key data for planning the garden show “Nature in Tirschenreuth”.

Before the actual construction of the “Nature in Tirschenreuth 2013” event began, the renovation of the Fischhof Bridge began at the end of 2009 . The costs for this amounted to around 930,000 euros.

Construction work on the garden show grounds in 2012

The first work on the site began towards the end of 2010 with clearing measures on the Netzbach and the removal of the avenue trees along the former road to Lohnsitz, which had to give way to the new city pond. The first structural measures to create the new city pond were carried out in mid-2011 by removing 130,000 cubic meters of earth and feeding the Netzbach into the Mühlbach. In the middle of the pond an overflow weir was built that divides the pond into two parts with different water levels. This was necessary so that, on the one hand, the Fischhof Bridge is sufficiently deep in the water and, on the other hand, the residential development at the western end of the pond is at a sufficient distance from the water. The upper part of the pond basin with the Fischhof Bridge was flooded at the end of August 2011. The lower area of the city pond was not filled with water until 2012, after the tension band bridge had been completed.

On the site of the former Schels brewery, the building of which was demolished, construction began in 2011 on the hotel and restaurant with a lakeside terrace, which are operated by a private investor from North Rhine-Westphalia . The investments for the building complex amounted to around four million euros.

The Berlin office Annabau Architektur und Landschaft emerged as the winner in the architectural competition for the tension band bridge , which leads from Platz am See across to Fischhof . The construction company, Franz Kassecker, started work on the bridge in October 2011, which is supported by only two tensioning straps over a length of around 88 meters. The cost of the structure, which was completed in 2012, amounted to around 1.3 million euros.

A total of 250 trees, 7,500 shrubs, 25,000 perennials, 20,000 summer flowers and 10,000 flower bulbs were planted, as well as 50,000 square meters of lawns and meadows and a further 6,000 square meters of flower meadows.

The focus of the garden show “Nature in Tirschenreuth” was the approximately six-hectare city pond east of the old town of Tirschenreuth. A circular path leads around the pond. With the partial re-establishment of this city pond, which was drained over 200 years ago, the Fischhofbrücke no longer leads across a meadow, but again across a body of water to the Fischhofinsel. Together with the Fischhof Bridge, this forms the center of the new Seepark. Around the Fischhof , which houses the Tirschenreuth District Court , a garden ribbon was laid out in which there are fruit trees in a flower meadow . The area is shielded from the street and residential buildings by a hedge made of flowering bushes in order to emphasize the island character.

The central entrance area to the garden show was the place on the lake as a transition from the old town to the garden show area. It is located directly on the city pond; Sitting steps offer direct access to the water. The so-called Haus am Teich is located on the square, which, as part of the Museum Quarter, contains three aquariums with local fish and provides insights into pond management in the Stiftland . In addition, there is the Hotel Seenario and a restaurant with a lake terrace on Platz am See.

The three partner cities of Tirschenreuth were each represented with their own stands at the “Nature in Tirschenreuth” event. The booth of Planá u Mariánských Lázní was located in the southern area of the site, the French twin town La Ville-du-Bois was in the northern area. On the occasion of the garden show, the city of Lauf an der Pegnitz gave Tirschenreuth the sculpture Pegnitz-Mühle , which is supposed to commemorate the numerous mills in Lauf.

A transition from Platz am See to Fischhof was created by a new tensioning ribbon bridge . It crosses the southern part of the city pond over a length of 70 meters. In December 2012, the city council voted to name the bridge after the Tirschenreuth historian Max Gleißner.

There were five pavilions on the area on the circular path around the town pond , which were dedicated to various regional topics and served as locations for visitor information as well as resting and viewing areas. The nature pavilion Bayern Arche - Preserving the diversity of nature described the native fauna and flora in Bavaria, the sacred landmarks of the Tirschenreuth district were discussed in the Sacred Landscape pavilion and the Upper Palatinate Forest pavilion focused on the Upper Palatinate Forest with the federal nature conservation project Waldnaabaue and the Vogelparadies Bruchwald. In the other two pavilions information about storks and forestry was presented.

The two large green spaces in the show were the sunken garden and the city gardens. The so-called sink garden next to the Fischhof is based on a monastery garden in its formal floor plan; the center of the garden has been lowered by around 50 centimeters. The city gardens laid out on the western shore park define the transition from the city to the park.

For visitors to the event, which is supported by numerous sponsors, a direct bus connection from Nuremberg via Lauf an der Pegnitz , Hersbruck and Amberg was set up for the duration of the event . Since Tirschenreuth no longer has a train station, train travelers from the train stations in Wiesau and Marktredwitz were brought to Tirschenreuth by shuttle buses in cooperation with the Vogtlandbahn and the " Alex ".

On May 28, 2013, Tirschenreuth's First Mayor, Franz Stahl, in the presence of Nuremberg's honorary city councilor Arif Tasdelen and the managing director of the European Metropolitan Region Nuremberg , Christa Standecker, hoisted a flag for the garden show in front of Nuremberg's main train station , which was the focus and ambassador of the Garden show town Tirschenreuth should be.

On the occasion of the horticultural show “Nature in Tirschenreuth”, Deutsche Post issued a special cancellation . This showed the logo of the garden show and was available on June 1 and 2 at the Deutsche Post stand on the garden show grounds.

The logo of “Nature in Tirschenreuth” was presented in January 2011 as the result of a competition. It is derived from a lily pad , the colors of which are intended to represent the three subject areas of relaxation, inspiration and adventure.

costs

During the planning phase in mid-2009, the total costs for the project were put at 6.4 million euros, of which the city of Tirschenreuth would have had to raise around 4.9 million euros itself. In March 2010, the calculated costs in the investment budget were around 7.8 million euros and the costs in the area of urban development were around 5.2 million euros.

The investment budget of the regional garden show “Nature in Tirschenreuth” was around 7.1 million euros. The Bavarian State Ministry for Environment and Health contributed 1.6 million euros and the city received another 1.0 million euros from funding from the European Union through the European Fund for Regional Development and Investment in its Future. A further 240,000 euros were contributed by the European Fisheries Fund and the project received 265,000 euros from the LEADER program of the European Union. The Landesfischereiverband Bayern e. The organizers estimated 3.5 million euros for the implementation budget, which was funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forests with 25,000 euros.

The city of Tirschenreuth's investments in the garden show amounted to 6.14 million euros in construction costs, which were funded with 2.87 million euros from the urban development program " Stadtumbau West " of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Free State of Bavaria and the European Fund for Regional Development .
