The State Garden Show Amberg 1996 was the Bavarian State Garden Show in the independent Upper Palatinate city ​​of Amberg .

The state horticultural show under the motto "Life on the River" took place from April 26th to October 6th and dealt with the redesign of the banks of the Vils . a. new natural meadows with meandering . The Amberg Sculpture Path was initiated and has been supplemented by other works of art to this day. The Schanzhübl tower is also on the site . For the state horticultural show, so-called plattforms for excursions were also built, these were work boats used in the Middle Ages that brought iron products to the Amberger Stadel in Regensburg and were mainly loaded with salt on the return journey. The achievements of the State Garden Show under Lord Mayor Wolfgang Dandorfer included the new building of the Amberg Congress Center ACC for economic and cultural events, as well as the new fairground, called Dultplatz. The former sewage treatment plant was converted into a youth club. Twenty years later, in 2016, various events commemorated the state horticultural show, which had been the largest until then, with 1.1 million visitors.
