The State Garden Show in Alzenau was the tenth regional small garden show in Bavaria , which took place from May 22 to August 16, 2015 in Alzenau in Lower Franconia .

The two interconnected parks, Generation Park and Energy Park, were created as exhibition grounds on the Kahl River , and existing, smaller areas such as the Hauckwald were redesigned. The exhibition had a total area of ​​9  hectares .

Generation park

The generation park is close to the city center. The main attractions were constantly located there for the entire duration of the State Garden Show. There was a Kneipp facility , a wine and rose garden, play and sports fields, an exercise course , a fruit lounge, a vintner's pavilion and the tree swing. In the southern part there was a playground, a lookout point and a 36 m² walk-in aerial view . Many of these sights were not dismantled after the garden show and are still in the generation park today.

Energy park

The energy park is located in the western part of Alzenau on the edge of the Prischoss . It was connected to the generation park via a barrier-free course . One could see a pan mill in this stretch . In the energy park there was the 74-meter-long “Kahlaue” viewing platform as well as light and water features .

In November 2008 Alzenau applied to the Munich Award Committee of the Society for the Promotion of Bavarian State Horticultural Shows to host a small state horticultural show . The application concept was based primarily on the assumption that the corrugated board company's relocation to the northern industrial area would work and that the two exhibition grounds would be directly connected. The contract for 2015 was then awarded in April 2009. The implementation contract was concluded in August of the same year.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 3, 2012 . The flag handover took place in August 2013 after the end of the Small State Garden Show in Tirschenreuth . More than 500 trees and bushes were planted during the two and a half years of construction. The river Kahl was renatured over a length of 2,200 meters by the Aschaffenburg water management office . For this purpose, over 6 hectares of land were acquired. Garden show materials arrived five months before the start of the previous (large) host city, Deggendorf .

All kindergartens in Alzenau were invited to test the playgrounds after the construction work was completed, one day before the opening . The visitor parking lot was built in the north of Alzenau in the sand pit . From there there was a shuttle bus connection to the bus station, near the generation park.

Accompanying measures

In the course of the construction work for the State Garden Show, construction work was carried out in other areas of the city. We put, for example on the slopes of Castle Alzenau a vineyard on the Meßmerpark below the Villa Messmer was embellished or Kumpf garden planted to availability. Furthermore, trees that were once felled were replanted along the roadside during the renovation work on Hanauer Strasse .

The opening took place on May 23, 2015 by Ulrike Scharf , Bavarian State Minister for Environment and Consumer Protection and the Mayor of Alzenau, Alexander Legler, with a festive ceremony and around 700 invited guests. Traditionally, a ribbon of flowers was cut. Over the entire duration of the State Garden Show of 87 days, entertainment programs with over 2,000 events by over 10,000 participants were offered in the entire area and on three stages. Among other things, there was a children's concert with Rolf Zuckowski . The focus was on the subjects of nature conservation and energy as well as viticulture and the Spessart . The Bavarian Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture were also represented with their own pavilion at the garden show.

Because of the dry and hot weather , maintaining the gardens was a particular challenge. A very large amount of water of 6,076 m³ was used for irrigation . On Saturday, July 25th, a storm was so violent that umbrellas, stage canopies and large flowerpots were knocked over. The site therefore had to be closed.

On August 16, the State Horticultural Show 2015 in Alzenau was concluded with the handover of the flag to the city of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in the presence of State Parliament President Barbara Stamm .

Reuse

After the demolition work has been completed, the two parks, the Generation Park and the Energy Park, are now available to the population and can be used as an urban recreational area.

costs

The pure construction costs amounted to 5.05 million euros. The implementation cost € 3.6 million. This was supported by the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment with € 1.6 million through the ERDF -Fonds the European Union with € 500,000 and by the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture with 25,000 €, promoted .

Planned income from tickets was € 2 million, whereby only € 1.71 million was received. A day ticket for adults cost 12.00 euros, for children 3.00 euros.

Visitors

Because of the ongoing heat wave in 2015 , with temperatures of almost 40  ° C (July 5 and August 7) ​​in Alzenau, the 300,000 visitors did not come as expected. In total, only 284,066 visits were counted. The days with the most visitors were May 31 with 6,166, July 26 with 5,989 and August 2 with 6,120 visits. 8,749 season tickets were sold.
