The Bayreuth State Horticultural Show 2016 in the Upper Franconian city of Bayreuth was a Bavarian state horticultural show from April 22nd to October 9th, 2016 under the motto "Music for the eyes". With the Red Main as the focal point, a new park and a recreational area , now known as Wilhelminenaue, were created in the Upper Au in the Hammerstatt district .

Wilhelminenaue
The Wilhelminenaue on the eastern outskirts, named after Margravine Wilhelmine (1709–1758), formed the main part of the exhibition grounds. It connected the Sankt Georgen district and the Hermitage Park with the fairground and the city center , including four different garden areas and Lake Hammerstätter See.
Red Main
For the state horticultural show, the Red Main was renatured over a length of 1.2 km.
Hammerstatter See
The two-hectare Hammerstätter See was artificially created and has a maximum depth of 2.8 m. There is a floating stage on it .

A total of 10.5 million euros in construction costs were incurred for the state horticultural show. 9.2 million euros were budgeted for the implementation, a large part of which should be covered by income. The garden show was funded with 2.88 million euros from EU funds ( ERDF program “IWB Bayern 2014-2020”), with 2.88 million euros from the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection and 175,000 euros from the Bavarian State Ministry for food, agriculture and forestry .
