There is a children's playground on the north-western edge . There were large beech and oak trees in the park, many of which fell victim to the severe gale force gusts of a super cell on August 18, 2019. A kindergarten, a day care center for the elderly, a pharmacy and a street in Alzenau are named after the Hauckwald.

history

The trees in the Hauckwald city park are the last remnants of the forest area that once stretched from the Unterwald to the former village. It was separated from the Unterwald during the construction of the Oberschur settlement and became smaller and smaller in the years that followed. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Hauckwald was named in the free judges witch trials as a witch's dance place .

Surname

The name "Hauk", "Haug" or Middle High German "Houc" is related to high or hill . Hauckwald could therefore be interpreted as a hill forest. From the original form of settlement Alzenau, the Hauckwald rose as a hill behind the houses. The defining word Hauck was transferred to the entire area, from the Kahl to the boundary of Wasserlos . It was found in the names "Hauckbruch" (in the area of today's Welzheimer Strasse) and "Hauckländer" (in the Breite Wiese ) that no longer exist today .
