Wolfgang Dandorfer (born June 5, 1949 in Vilseck ) is a German politician ( CSU ).

Life

After graduating from high school in Amberg, Wolfgang Dandorfer did military service in the Bundeswehr. He then completed his teacher training course at the Eichstätt University. From 1974 to 1984 he was the deputy district chairman of the Junge Union in Amberg. In 1975 he became a member of the CSU district committee in Amberg.

From 1978 to 2014 Wolfgang Dandorfer was a member of the Amberg city council. From 1984 to 1990 he was chairman of the CSU city council group.

After working as a teacher, Dandorfer was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament from 1982 to 1990 .

Lord Mayor

In 1990 Dandorfer was elected Lord Mayor of the city of Amberg to succeed Franz Prechtl . He was re-elected in 1996 , 2002 and 2008 , sometimes against five other applicants.

Wolfgang Dandorfer's term of office ended on April 30, 2014, as he was no longer running for local elections. Michael Cerny (CSU) was elected to succeed him.

During and before his tenure, as in many municipalities, there was a structural change (e.g. withdrawal of the US armed forces in 1992; closure of the Kaiser Wilhelm barracks in 1994; bankruptcy of Baumann ( Emailwaren ) in 1986). To compensate for this, several commercial and industrial areas were created, new residential areas were created in place of the von Möhl barracks abandoned by the US armed forces, and in 2001 Amberg was awarded the “Bavarian Quality Prize for Business-Friendly Community” by the Bavarian State Government.

An outstanding event for Amberg under Mayor Dandorfer was the founding of the East Bavarian Technical University Amberg - Weiden in 1994. This example of armaments conversion (the university is located in the buildings of the former Kaiser Wilhelm barracks of the Bundeswehr, see above) and the close cooperation between them Institution with Amberg and Upper Palatinate companies and the status of a student town had or have positive cultural and economic effects on Amberg and its surroundings.

In addition, a department store in the city center that had been vacant since then was closed and auctioned off in 2005.

The Bavarian State Garden Show "Leben am Fluss" (Life on the River) in 1996 in turn led to new green spaces (LGS site) on the Vils, the construction of the Amberg ACC Congress Center (economic and cultural events) and a new festival area (Dultplatz).

During Dandorfer's term of office, the Bavarian State Exhibition of the House of Bavarian History “The Winter King - The Last Elector from the Upper Palatinate” took place in 2003 in the Amberg City Museum. This exhibition with the most visitors in Amberg was frequented by over 81,000 people from Germany and abroad, which (not including the overnight stays) meant a considerable influx of purchasing power for the city.
