Nongnuth Phetcharatana

Nongnuth Phetcharatana ( Thai นงนุช เพ็ ชร รัตน์ ; born August 3, 1957 ) is a Thai diplomat .

Life

She studied international relations at Chulalongkorn University and graduated with a bachelor's degree. In the United States , she earned a master's degree in political science from Indiana University. After graduating, she worked as a journalist for the Bangkok Post for a year .

In 1983, she first joined the foreign service of Thailand as an attaché . She worked as the third secretary in the press department and later as the second and first secretary in the department for trade and industry. In 1989 she went to Budapest as an embassy counselor at the Thai embassy in Hungary . From 1993 she worked again in the department for trade and industry until she took over the management of the department for North America in 1995 . This was followed by a deployment in the planning staff of the European department .

Another assignment abroad took her from 1999 to 2003 as an embassy counselor and envoy to the embassy in Washington, DC in the USA. In 2004 she became head of the Americas and South Pacific Division.

In 2009 she became the Thai ambassador to Austria . She was also accredited as an ambassador in Slovakia and Slovenia . She also represented Thailand at the International Atomic Energy Agency , the United Nations Industrial Development Organization , the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). On June 14, 2012 she took over the office of ambassador to Germany . In 2014 she was elected Ambassador of the Year . She remained ambassador in Germany until 2016.

She then took up a leadership position at the Devawongse Varoprakarn Institute , which trains Thai diplomats.
