Holger Obenaus

Holger Obenaus (born December 20, 1964 in Bensberg ) is an American composer, songwriter, guitarist, music producer and photographer of German origin.

Holger Obenaus wrote the lyrics and composed the music of German pop music hits and was awarded over 30 gold and platinum records by the German Phono Academy.

He played as a guitarist in German pop and rock bands and produced several albums. Holger Obenaus now lives in the USA and works as a commercial architecture and art photographer. He photographs for several US magazines and has produced over 50 covers in 12 years.

Holger Obenaus studied guitar and composition at the Musicians Institute GIT in Hollywood , CA USA from 1989 to 1990 . In 1991 he joined the German rock band Original Buam as guitarist and recorded the album Für Du , BMG Ariola with the band in 1993 . In 1992 he was hired as a guitarist for the Cologne Zeltinger Band . In 1994, together with Thomas Hauptmann, he produced the album Scheisse by the Zeltinger Band, which was published by EMI Electrola .

Composer / lyricist

Holger Obenaus started a close collaboration with the music producer Helmuth Rüssmann in 1992 . In the following 16 years he composed and wrote over 200 titles for German and international artists such as Wolfgang Petry , Andreas Martin , Jürgen Drews , Banaroo , Worlds Apart , Wildecker Herzbuben , Bernhard Brink , Michael Morgan , Mia Julia and Ikke Hüftgold , Trademark and Achim Petry .

As a composer / lyricist, Obenaus was involved in four tracks on Wolfgang Petry's album Alles , which was awarded four times platinum and sold over 2 million units in Germany. He also wrote several titles for “The Longest Single in the World” by Wolfgang Petry , which is one of the 100 most successful singles in German music history.

The album “Everybody” by the British boy group Worlds Apart achieved triple platinum status in France in 1996, on which Holger Obenaus is involved in a title as a lyricist.

Art / photography

Holger Obenaus' artistic career began in the early 1980s around the Düsseldorf Art Academy and the Cologne Werkschule. He regularly took part in art events where he spontaneously improvised music. The creative exchange led to a collaboration with the artist Winfried Kirches. In 1993 they staged the art action “Bahide Aslan Baidoa” in the Gethsemane Church in Berlin.

This resulted in the CD “Bahide Arslan Baidoa” by Holger Obenaus with experimental, avant-garde music.

In the mid-2000s, Obenaus moved back to the USA and shifted his artistic activity into the visual spectrum.

He works as an architecture photographer for magazines such as Architectural Digest , Dallas Style & Design and SE Florida Style & Design and has produced over 50 national covers in 12 years. At the same time, Holger Obenaus developed a method for producing digital photographs with large-format cameras and lenses that are over a hundred years old.
