Marie Gervais-Vidricaire
Marie Gervais-Vidricaire (born August 25, 1955 in Montmagny (Québec) ) is a Canadian diplomat and was her country's ambassador to Germany from September 2013 to February 2017 .
Life
Gervais-Vidricaire studied journalism with a minor in German studies (BA) at the Université Laval in Quebec, at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris International Relations (diploma) and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales de Paris political and social sciences. She speaks French, English, Spanish and German.
In 1980, Marie Gervais-Vidricaire joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and held positions in Mexico City, Bogota, New York, Paris and Geneva. From 2005 to 2009 she was ambassador to the Republic of Austria with simultaneous accreditation for international organizations based in Vienna. She then worked in the independent expert group convened by the NATO Secretary General to develop a new strategic concept for NATO.
In Ottawa, she held positions in the Privy Council Office and in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. There she was most recently Head of the Global Issues Department from 2001 to 2005 and Head of the Task Force for Stabilization and Reconstruction (START) from 2011 to 2013. On 23 August 2013 she was appointed ambassador to Berlin by Foreign Minister John Baird .
Gervais-Vidricaire is married to Marc Vidricaire and has two sons.
