Takeshi Yagi ( Japanese 八 木 毅 ) (born December 7, 1954 in Niigata ) is a Japanese diplomat .

Life

In March 1977, he graduated from the Tokyo University Faculty of Law . In October 1976 he had already passed the examination for the higher diplomatic service of Japan. He therefore joined the Japanese Foreign Ministry in April 1977 . From September 1978 to June 1980 he studied in Germany at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

In August 1994, he became head of the CIS Support Unit in the Europe and Oceania Department of the Japanese Foreign Ministry. In January 1996 he took over the position of Head of the Central and Eastern Europe Department until he became Head of the Non-Refundable Development Department in the Economic Cooperation Department in August 1997.

Takeshi Yagi became an envoy to the Japanese Embassy in the United States in August 1999 . In August 2001 he went to the Japanese embassy in Germany as chargé d'affaires.

He then returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and became Deputy Deputy Minister in September 2003 with responsibility for parliamentary affairs. In August 2005 he took over the position of deputy head of the European department.

In February 2007 he was appointed envoy and deputy permanent representative in the Permanent Mission of Japan to the OECD until he became head of the economic department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from August 2010.

In September 2012 he became the Japanese ambassador to India . As a secondary accreditation , he was also ambassador to Bhutan from October 2012 . From February 3, 2016, he was deployed as the Japanese ambassador to Germany.

Takeshi Yagi is married and speaks Japanese , German and English .
