Gaëtan Lavertu

Gaëtan Lavertu (born January 1944 in Saint-Hyacinthe , Québec ) is a former Canadian ambassador .

Life

Lavertu studied social sciences at the Collège Saint-Jean-Eudes and obtained a master's degree in political science (at Laval University ), administrative economics (at the University of Western Ontario ) and public administration (at the École nationale d'administration publique Professional Experience ) . He joined the foreign service in 1969.

From 1969 to 1971 Lavertu was with the United Nations in New York City, as a consultant for defense relations with NORAD-NATO in the personnel administration of the Canadian Foreign Ministry and the department of international trade of the Foreign Ministry.

From 1971 to 1974 Lavertu was third-class embassy secretary and vice-consul at the embassy in Madrid, second-degree embassy secretary and vice-consul in Rabat and at the École nationale d'administration publique in Quebec. From 1975 to 1976 Lavertu worked in the Federal-Provincial Relations Division, External Affairs and International Trade Canada. From 1976 to 1979 Lavertu was first class embassy secretary and consul in Caracas . From 1979 to 1982 Lavertu was at the Representation of the Canadian Government to the EU in Brussels. From 1982 to 1983 Lavertu was the office manager of the deputy foreign minister.

From 1983 to 1987 Lavertu headed the news evaluation department and then the intelligence service of the Canadian Foreign Ministry. From 1987 to September 29, 1989 Lavertu, with its embassy in Bogotá, was also accredited by the government in La Paz. Subsequently, Lavertu was Deputy High Commissioner in London until 1992. From August 21, 2000 to June 16, 2003, Lavertu was Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister. From 2003 ambassador to Mexico.
