Johannes "Jogi" Bitter (born September 2, 1982 in Oldenburg (Oldb) ) is a German handball goalkeeper .

Career

society

Johannes Bitter began playing handball at the HSG Neuenburg / Bockhorn in 1989 . He started out as an outfield player and only took up the goalkeeping position two years later. After Bitter played for SG VTB / Altjührden in the 2nd Bundesliga North between 1999 and 2002 , he moved to Wilhelmshaven HV , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga . After just one season he moved to SC Magdeburg . From summer 2007 he played for HSV Hamburg . After HSV Hamburg filed for bankruptcy in January 2016, he joined the TVB 1898 Stuttgart .

National team

Bitter made his international debut for the DHB on January 4, 2002 in Balingen against Switzerland . In the final of the 2007 World Cup , Johannes Bitter was a surefire support for the German team when he came into the team "coldly" due to the injury to regular goalkeeper Henning Fritz and the final opponent Poland failed to equalize after being six goals behind. With this achievement he saved the German team's leadership, which had melted down to one goal. For this triumph he was awarded the silver bay leaf . After the 2011 World Cup , Bitter declared that he would no longer be available to the national team, at least temporarily, for personal reasons . In fact, he only returned to qualify for the 2015 World Cup for the playoff games - again, he did not take part in the World Cup itself. In December 2017, Bitter was nominated by national coach Christian Prokop for the extended squad for the European Championship 2018 . He returned to the national team for the 2020 European Championship .

Others

Bitter is a co-founder of GOAL, the joint organization of all licensed handball players in Germany, which he runs on a voluntary basis together with Marcus Rominger .
