Max Häfner (born May 13, 1996 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) is a German handball player .

Career

At the age of 17, Häfner moved from his home club TSB Schwäbisch Gmünd to Frisch Auf Göppingen in the A-Youth League . From Göppingen he returned to TSB Schwäbisch Gmünd. With the TSB, Häfner rose to the top division of Baden-Württemberg . For the 2017/18 season he moved from the fourth division to the first division club TVB 1898 Stuttgart . His competitive debut for the TVB took place on August 19, 2017 in the first round of the DHB Cup against HSV Bad Blankenburg . In the Bundesliga, Häfner played his first game on August 24, 2017 against MT Melsungen . In 2018, he had to take a six-month break after a torn ligament and two intervertebral disc operations.

At the beginning of his active career, Häfner mostly played in the position of a left winger , but could also be used in the backcourt . After Michael Kraus left the TVB at short notice in February 2019, Häfner finally took over the playmaker position in the central back room.

Private

Häfner graduated from a commercial high school. He is studying mathematics and sport to become a teacher at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Education .

Max Häfner's two older brothers are also active as handball players : Kai Häfner - the oldest - plays for the Bundesliga club MT Melsungen and the German national team; Jan Häfner is active at the upper division TSB Schwäbisch Gmünd. The father used to play and train his three sons there.
