Ingvar Lidholm

Ingvar Natanael Lidholm (born February 24, 1921 in Jönköping , † October 17, 2017 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish composer .

Lidholm studied violin and orchestral conducting at the Stockholm Conservatory and composition with Hilding Rosenberg . He completed his education in Italy, France and Switzerland. From 1947 to 1956 he was the conductor of the Örebro Symphony Orchestra . Until 1965 he headed the chamber music department of the Swedish Radio , after which he worked from 1965 to 1975 as a professor of composition at the Stockholm Conservatory.

Lidholm composed an opera and a television opera , orchestral works, chamber music works, cantatas , choirs and songs . Stylistically, he is considered a representative of modernism. He processed influences from Hindemith and Stravinsky , but also elements of Expressionism and the twelve-tone technique . He is characterized by a strong, high-contrast intensity of expression. His students included composers such as Edward Applebaum and Anders Eliasson .
