Hilding Rosenberg (born June 21, 1892 in Bosjökloster , † May 19, 1985 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish conductor and composer .

Life

From 1909 he was an organist in Kalmar and then worked as a concert pianist, teacher and briefly as a church musician. From 1914 he studied piano with Richard Andersson , later composition with Ernst Henrik Ellberg and Wilhelm Stenhammar and took conducting lessons with Kurt Striegler and Hermann Scherchen . From 1932 to 1934 he was music director of the Opera of Stockholm . He then worked as a guest conductor in many European countries and in the USA . His students include Karl-Birger Blomdahl , Sven-Erik Bäck , Ingvar Lidholm and Åke Hermanson .

Rosenberg composed seven operas , one opera oratorio ( Joseph and his brothers , 1946–1948), seven ballets , four oratorios , two melodramas , eight symphonies and other symphonic works, two violin, one cello and one trumpet concerto, drama, radio play and film music, chamber music works, piano and organ pieces, songs and choral works. In 1956 he was elected an honorary member of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) .
