Stefan Krohn

Stefan Krohn (born August 23, 1974 ) is a former German swimmer. He took part in the 1992 and 2000 Summer Paralympics .

Life

In 1982, at the age of eight, Krohn suffered a tram accident . He got under the train and suffered serious injuries to his left leg, which then had to be amputated. At a school for the physically handicapped, he came into contact with swimming, which he then practiced intensively. He joined the Association for Sports Therapy and Disabled Sports 1980 (VSB 1980). After the political turning point in 1989 , there was also the opportunity to participate in international competitions. In 1992 he qualified for the Paralympics in Barcelona .

Krohn then concentrated on his professional training and did not begin to take part in international competitions again until 1997. In 1998 he came 5th at the World Championships over 100 m back and in the following year at the European Championships on 4th place over 50 m freestyle. In 2000 he took part in the Paralympics in Sydney and reached 8th place over 100 meters back. In total, he won 25 medals at national championships.

Krohn ended his career in competitive sports, but is still active in sitting volleyball at HSV Medicine . In this sport he is the team manager of the German women's team. Professionally, he works in marketing at the AOK in Magdeburg .

Awards

In 2001, Krohn signed the city of Magdeburg's Golden Book .
