Shahid Ahmad Kamal (born January 1, 1952 ) is a Pakistani diplomat .

Life

He studied economics, diplomacy and international relations at Government College University in Lahore , the University of London and the Institut d'Administration Publique in Paris . He holds a Masters Degree in Political Science and History from the University of Punjab in Lahore. In 1977 he entered the diplomatic service of Pakistan. He worked for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry in Islamabad with a focus on India . This was followed by activities as second secretary in the Pakistani embassy in Paris and the Pakistani UN mission in New York City . From 1984 to 1986 he was the Pakistani consul in New York. In 1986 and 1987 he was First Secretary for the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations in New York.

From 1987 onwards he worked as a sub-department head in the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as a senior advisor in the Foreign Ministry and State Secretary to the Prime Minister. From 1995 to 1997 he was seconded to the organization of the Islamic Conference and worked there as director of the political department.

From 1998 to 2000 he was at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, DC in the United States . In 2001 he became the Pakistani ambassador in Stockholm , Sweden . Further accreditations existed in Estonia , Finland and Latvia . In 2005 he became Assistant State Secretary until he became Pakistani Ambassador to Germany in September 2007 . He held this office until January 2012.

From February 2012 to March 2013, he worked as an advisor to the Scientific and Technological Cooperation Committee of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation . From March 2013 he worked as an advisor to the Rector of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology.
