Christian Blickenstorfer

Christian Blickenstorfer (* 1945 in Horgen ) is a Swiss diplomat and former ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in Germany .

After studying at the University of Zurich , which he described as Doctor of Philosophy graduated, joined Christian Blickenstorfer 1974 in the service of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and received in Bern and Cairo trained as a trainee before moving to the trade department of the 1976 Federal Department of Economic Affairs on changed .

In 1980 he returned to the Department of Foreign Affairs and initially served in Bangkok . He was later transferred to Tehran , where he was promoted to Counselor in 1985 . In the same year he was appointed deputy head of Political Department II at the department headquarters.

From 1989 onwards he served as Minister and First Assistant to the Swiss Head of Mission in Washington, DC ; from 1993 he was the ambassador of Switzerland to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , the United Arab Emirates , the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen , based in Riyadh .

In 1997 Blickenstorfer was reassigned and served first as head of Political Department II in Bern, then from March 2000 as ambassador and head of the political department .

From August 2001 to April 2006 he held the post of ambassador of the Swiss Confederation in the USA . In May 2006 he took over the management of the Swiss embassy in Berlin from Werner Baumann , who moved to Canada as ambassador .

Christian Blickenstorfer retired in May 2010 and was replaced by Tim Guldimann as ambassador.
