Dominique Struye de Swielande

Dominique Struye de Swielande (born July 10, 1947 in Gent , Flanders , † October 27, 2015 in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert ) was a Belgian diplomat .

Life

Swielande received his doctorate in law from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven . He holds a Masters in Law from University College London and Masters in European Law from Ghent University . He joined the foreign service on February 1, 1974. From 1975 to 1976 he was accredited in Vienna , from 1976 to 1980 in Lagos . From 1980 to 1981 he was chargé d' affaires in Salisbury / Harare Zimbabwe . From 1982 to 1984 he was counselor in Kinshasa .

In 1984 he was accredited in Austria , Nigeria , Zimbabwe and Zaire . From 1984 to 1987 he was an advisor to Leo Tindemans . From 1987 to 1990 he was Consul General and Deputy Representative of the Belgian Government to the United Nations in Geneva . In 1990 he headed the Europe department in the Foreign Ministry. From 1991 to 1992 he was employed in Mark Eyskens' planning group. From 1992 to 1994 he was a consultant to Jean-Luc Dehaene . From 1994 to 1995 he headed the administration of the Foreign Ministry. From 1995 to 1996 he was office manager of the State Secretary in the Foreign Ministry Reginald Moreels . From 1997 to 2002 he was the Belgian ambassador to Germany. From 2002 to 2006 he was the representative of the Belgian government at the North Atlantic Council .

From December 29, 2006 to February 2009, he was the Belgian Ambassador to Washington, DC

In February 2009 he became the Belgian ambassador in Kinshasa , Democratic Republic of the Congo , where companies from the People's Republic of China now have prospecting and mining rights. In June 2010 de Swielande confirmed the participation of Albert II in the celebrations for the 50th independence of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
