Per Poulsen-Hansen (born September 14, 1946 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish diplomat .

Life

He served as a lieutenant in the Danish military until 1967 and was employed as a specialist in the Russian language . This was followed by Russian studies at the University of Copenhagen , which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1970. He was then a first lieutenant, but graduated in 1973 with a master's degree in law . From 1973 to 1975 he served as Legation Councilor in the Danish Foreign Ministry. He then went from 1976 to 1979 as the second secretary to the Danish embassy in the Soviet Union in Moscow . After becoming the personal assistant to the Undersecretary in the Danish Foreign Ministry in 1979, he took on the role of Legation Councilor for Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union in 1981. From 1984 to 1987 he worked in London at the Danish Embassy in the United Kingdom , first as first secretary and from 1986 as advisor and deputy head of mission.

Between 1987 and 1991 he was head of the NATO and Security Policy Department in the Danish Foreign Ministry. At the same time he was a member of the Danish Defense Commission from 1988 to 1997. He was also a member of the inter-ministerial contact group for security policy from 1987 to 1991 and of the government commission for security and disarmament (SNU) from 1988 to 1991.

In 1991 he became the Danish ambassador to Czechoslovakia . After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, he was ambassador to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia from 1993 . From 1994 to 1999 he returned to the Danish Foreign Ministry as Undersecretary and Political Director. Between 1995 and 1999 he was also a board member of the Danish Institute for International Affairs. From 1999 to 2003 he was employed as a ministerial director in the office of the Danish Prime Minister. In 2003 he became the permanent representative of Denmark to NATO in Brussels . In September 2010 he became the Danish ambassador to Germany . He held the office until 2015.

The retired Poulsen-Hansen has been a board member of the Danish Maritime and Foreign Churches since 2015 .

He is married and has three daughters.

Awards

Poulsen-Hansen is the 1st class commander of the Dannebrog Order .
