Friedrich Hoess

Friedrich (Fritz) Hoess (born October 7, 1932 in Vienna ; † January 5, 2007 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and diplomat. From 1983 to 1987 he was a member of the Federal Council and ambassador in Canberra , Washington and Bonn .

education and profession

Hoess attended the Humanist Gymnasium in Vienna and passed the Matura in 1951 . He then studied law at the University of Vienna and graduated with the doctorate to the doctor of rights (Dr. iur.) From. Since 1953 he was a member of the Catholic student union K.Ö.St.V. Nibelungia Vienna. After completing his studies, Hoess completed his court year in Vienna and St. Pölten from 1955 to 1956 and then worked in the department for trade policy and foreign trade in the Federal Chamber of Commerce . In 1957 he entered the service of the Federal Chancellery, where he was employed in the section for economic coordination. He was then an economic attaché at the Austrian Embassy in Washington from 1958 to 1960 and was then employed in Austria from 1960 to 1965. Between 1965 and 1967 Hoess worked in the press and culture department at the Austrian Embassy in Tel Aviv , after which he was employed in the cabinet of Chancellor Josef Klaus from 1968 to 1970 . From 1971 to 1974 he took on the function of consul general and head of the Austrian delegation in divided Berlin and from 1975 to 1979 he was ambassador to Australia , where he was also accredited for New Zealand and Papua New Guinea . Between 1979 and 1981 Hoess worked as head of Department II / 6 (International Atomic Energy Affairs and the Council of Europe) of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs and was Austria's permanent representative at the International Atomic Energy Agency. In 1981 he took over the management of the Styrian delegation in Vienna. Hoess was Ambassador to Washington from 1987 to 1992 and Ambassador to Bonn from 1993 to 1997 . He then worked as a foreign policy advisor to the Federation of Industrialists .

Politics and functions

Hoess represented the ÖVP between January 1, 1983 and November 15, 1987 as a Styrian member in the Federal Council . In 1986 he was also a member of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
