Salem A. Quateen is a Libyan diplomat .

Life

He holds a Master of Law degree from the University of Miami , USA . From 1970 to 1974 he worked in the legal department of the Libyan Foreign Ministry. During this time he was already working for Libya in various international bodies. In 1971 he was his country's delegate to the Legal Committee of the Arab League . From 1971 to 1974 he was also a delegate to the Arab Committee of Experts on the Law of the Sea . In 1972 he was rapporteur on the project committee for the use of nuclear energy and was a member of the Libyan delegation to the United Nations in Geneva . In 1973 he was part of the delegation on maritime law issues in Geneva and also worked on the relevant committee of the Arab League. From 1977 to 1979 he was then head of the legal department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1977 he was part of a commission to investigate the effects of US law. From 1979 to 1982 he worked as a legal advisor at the Libyan Mission to the United Nations. At the same time he was a delegate in the legal committee of the United Nations. He also took part in the third conference on the law of the sea in Geneva until 1982.

From 1984 to 1989 he was director of the Department of Contracts and Law of the Libyan Foreign Ministry. In 1985 he headed the Libyan delegation at an expert meeting of Muslim countries in Jeddah . In 1986 he worked in the Libyan delegation to the Civil Aviation Committee of the Arab League in Rabat and the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal .

From 1989 to 1997 he was the Libyan ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives . This was followed from 1997 to 2000 as Director General of the Department for Contracts and Law in the Libyan Foreign Ministry. In 1999 he chaired a Libyan delegation to negotiate a bilateral agreement with the Czech Republic . From 2000 to 2007 he was ambassador of the Arab League in Germany . In this role he spoke out in favor of the establishment of an Arab cultural center in Berlin . It followed from 2007 to 2009 an activity for the league in Cairo .
