Bernhard Czogalla

Bernhard Czogalla (born June 2, 1942 in Magdeburg ) is a German politician and former mayor of the city of Magdeburg.

Life

He was born the son of the carpenter Josef Czogalla and his wife Berta Czogalla . From 1949 to 1957 he attended elementary school and then went to an extended high school until 1961 , from which he graduated from high school. From 1961 to 1965 he completed a philosophical-theological course in Erfurt .

From 1966, Czogalla worked in the Halle service combine. He was employed here until 1968 as head of the technology department. As early as 1967 he attended the college for finance in Gotha , which he graduated in 1971 as a finance economist . From 1969 he worked as an economist at the Magdeburg industrial and commercial bank . In 1973, however, he went to the State Bank of the GDR, District Directorate Magdeburg, as a sector manager for engineering control. At the same time he completed an evening course , which he completed in 1977 with a degree in economics. In 1988 he switched briefly to Caritas as a technical employee and then worked from 1988 to 1990 as a project engineer at Robotron in Magdeburg.

During the political turnaround in 1989 in the GDR , he was one of the founders of the Magdeburg Business Circle and showed commitment to the editorial team of the Halle-Magdeburg-Zeitung . In 1990 he applied to the Magdeburg city administration for a position in the field of city economic development, although the selection committee proposed to him to take over the management of the city's finance department. Czogalla, who did not belong to any party, took over this function and was awarded the title of City Councilor for Finance in 1992. He was mainly concerned with building up the modern financial administration of Magdeburg. In 1994 he was elected by the city council as an alderman for finance, and in 2001 he was re-elected. At the same time, he was elected mayor by the city council in 1995 and again in 2002 and thus as deputy mayor of the respective mayor. In 2007 he retired.

In his functions, he was also responsible for the management of the staff unit for the Federal Horticultural Show 1999 and various supervisory bodies of municipal companies. He was also a permanent member of the finance committee of the German Association of Cities . As a volunteer, he was one of the founders of the Lions Club in Magdeburg. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the Lothar Kreyssig Peace Prize .

Awards

The city of Magdeburg awarded him the city's ring of honor in 2007. In 1994 and 2007 he signed the Golden Book of the city of Magdeburg .
