Gerardo Peñalver Portal (born April 13, 1969 in Havana ) is a Cuban diplomat .

Life

From 1987 to 1992 he studied international political relations at the Institute for International Relations Raúl Roa García in Havana . From 1992 to 1994 he served in the foreign affairs directorate of the Cuban Ministry of Defense. This was followed by a position as general assistant in the Foreign Ministry in the department responsible for the Commonwealth of Independent States . From 1996 to 1998 he was the third secretary at the Cuban embassy in Germany in Bonn . From 1998 to 2000 he worked in the Foreign Ministry for the European Union . He was then used again in Germany and worked from 2000 to 2003 as a political advisor and deputy head of mission in the Cuban embassy in Berlin . After working for the Cuban Council of Ministers from 2003 to 2005, in addition to which he completed a master's degree in international economic relations at the Institute for International Relations Raúl Roa García in 2004/05 , he was Cuban Ambassador to Germany from 2005 to 2009. He then returned to the Cuban Foreign Ministry as General Secretary. In 2013 he became Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Europe , Canada , Africa , the Middle East and Asia - Oceania . In 2012 he obtained a diploma in public administration at the Raúl Roa García Institute . He has been the Cuban Ambassador to Russia since January 17, 2018 .

Gerardo Peñalver Portal is married and has two children. In addition to Spanish , he speaks English , German , Russian and French .

He is an honorary member of the Alliance for Social Justice and Human Dignity .
