Bruno Groth (born June 26, 1926 in Pustamin ( Pomerania ); † July 9, 2018 ) was a German ceramist and painter.

Life

Groth completed an apprenticeship as a painter from 1942. In 1943 he became a soldier on the German side in World War II . He became a French prisoner of war, in which he continued his training as a painter and from which he finally returned in 1948. From 1951 he studied painting under Wilhelm Paulke at the Magdeburg School of Applied Arts . From 1953 to 1958 he studied wall painting at the Dresden University of Fine Arts , which he completed with a diploma in wall painting. In 1958 Groth became a member of the Association of Visual Artists . From 1959 to 1963 he taught at the Magdeburg Technical College and then in Heiligendamm until 1964 . From 1965 he worked as a freelance artist. He created a variety of building-related art on buildings in the GDR , and after 1990 also in the western part of the Federal Republic. Often he made use of clinker and ceramics. Groth worked as an artistic consultant in the construction of the Neu Olvenstedt district . From the 1990s he was committed to the preservation of works of art that were endangered by the demolition or renovation of buildings. In 2014 he succeeded in receiving a mosaic by Manfred Gabriel in Magdeburg's Danzstrasse.

On December 18, 2017, he was allowed to enter the Golden Book of the City of Magdeburg in recognition of his life's work .

Groth lived in the Magdeburg district of Alt Olvenstedt for many decades . He died on July 9, 2018, and was buried on July 27, 2018 in Magdeburg's Westfriedhof .
