Waltraut Zachhuber

Waltraut Zachhuber (born October 5, 1941 in Christiansfeld , Denmark ; born Fabricius ) is a German Protestant pastor.

Life

Zachhuber was born in Denmark in 1941. She came to Germany at the age of six. After completing her school education in Niesky , she studied Protestant theology in Halle (Saale) from 1960 to 1965 , where she then worked as a vicar until her second theological exam in 1968 . She was not employed between 1969 and 1974.

In 1974 she went to Schwarzheide-West as a pastor with her husband, whom she married in 1966 . In 1980 she came to Magdeburg as a cathedral preacher . From 1982 she was jointly responsible for the weekly peace prayers in Magdeburg Cathedral and she took part in actions of the church peace movement. Before the fall of the Wall, she was a member of the Dom advisory group , which from September 1989 organized the “Prayers for Social Renewal” every Monday. Her and Giselher Quast's calls for prudence were an essential contribution to the peaceful revolution in Magdeburg in autumn 1989.

After the fall of the Wall she was press and radio pastor of the church province of Saxony from 1990 to 1995 . She gave morning prayers in the program of the MDR and Deutschlandfunk . In 1995 she took over the office of superintendent in the parish of Magdeburg. She retired at the end of 2003. She lives in Magdeburg, is committed to the laying of stumbling blocks , was chairwoman of the round table against xenophobia in Saxony-Anhalt and is honorary chairwoman of the board of the Friends of the New Synagogue Magdeburg eV , which supports the construction of a new synagogue in the state capital.
