Monika Wissel

Monika Wissel (born July 31, 1944 in Berlin ) is a former German local politician ( SPD ).

Career

Wissel completed her professional training in 1966 as a qualified librarian. She then worked in the Tempelhof city ​​library until 1988 , where she was most recently head of the library system.

She began her political career in 1971 when she joined the SPD Charlottenburg. In 1979 she was elected for the first time to the district assembly of the West Berlin district of Charlottenburg . There she later took over the chairmanship of the SPD parliamentary group. In 1988 she was elected District Councilor for Economics and Finance, and a year later she was elected first District Mayor . She held the office until the merger of the district with the neighboring district of Wilmersdorf to form the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district on January 1, 2001.
