Ólafur Davíðsson (diplomat)

Ólafur Davíðsson (* 1942 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic diplomat .

Life

Ólafur Davídsson studied economics in Kiel and Heidelberg from 1962 to 1968 . In 1968 he completed his studies as an economist at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . After graduation, he worked at the National Icelandic Economic Institute in Reykjavík from 1969 to 1982, the last two years as director. From 1983 to 1991 he worked as managing director of the Icelandic Industry Association. He was also a member of the Advisory Committee of the European Free Trade Association EFTA . From 1988 to 1990 he chaired the committee. He was also on the board of the Icelandic Industrial Loan Fund from 1983 to 1991 and chaired the board of the Icelandic Finance and Development Company from 1986 to 1992.

In 1992 he became State Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, and he held this post until 2004. From 2000 to 2004 he represented Iceland as Deputy Plenipotentiary at the International Monetary Fund . He headed the Icelandic Executive Committee on Privatization from 2002 to 2004.

In 2005 he became the Icelandic ambassador to Germany , based in Berlin . He was also the Icelandic ambassador to Bulgaria , Croatia and Poland . He held his office until 2010.

He is married and has three children.
