Karine Kazinian

Karine Kroyan Kazinian ( Armenian Կարինե Ղազինյան ; born January 8, 1955 in Yerevan , † December 6, 2012 in Los Angeles ) was an Armenian diplomat .

Life

She studied from 1972 to 1977 at the Faculty of Philology of the State University of Yerevan . This was followed by entry into the diplomatic service of the Soviet Union . First she was secretary to the Soviet ambassador in Mozambique , then assistant to the ambassador in Portugal .

From 1992 to 1994 she worked as a lecturer for English and Portuguese at the University of Yerevan. She then moved to Bucharest in Romania with her husband, George Kazinian , where he was the first Armenian ambassador. In 1997, after the death of her husband, she became chargé d'affaires of the Armenian embassy and in 1999 she became her country's ambassador to Romania. In 2001 she worked as an Armenian ambassador in Germany . In 2009 she became Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia. in 2010 she graduated from Harvard Kennedy School . On September 8, 2011, she assumed the post of Armenian Ambassador to the United Kingdom . In addition to Armenian , she spoke English, Russian , German , Romanian and Portuguese.

She died in 2012 of complications from a surgical operation, leaving behind a daughter and a son. She was buried in Armenia.
