Jürgen Bräcklein

Jürgen Bräcklein (born January 27, 1938 in Eisleben ; † May 8, 2015 in Braunschweig ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ) and from 1989 to 2001 City Director of Braunschweig.

Life

Bräcklein, the son of a school principal, grew up in Eisleben. After the end of the Second World War , the family moved to Helmstedt , where he graduated from high school in Julianum in 1958 . He then studied law at the Universities of Göttingen , Bonn and Cologne . In 1965 he received his doctorate in Cologne with the work Das Staatsbild Ernst Jüngers in the course of his work .

In 1967 Bräcklein began his work in the Braunschweig district government and in the following year moved to the Braunschweig district , to which he belonged until it was dissolved in 1974; most recently as deputy to the senior district director . He then moved to the Braunschweig Greater Braunschweig Association, which was founded in 1974, as the deputy director of the association . After its dissolution in 1978, he worked briefly as a lawyer. In 1980 he took over the Braunschweig city ​​treasury .

Finally, in 1989, Bräcklein was elected city director. He was the last to hold the office for a full term until the senior city director and mayor of Braunschweig became one-way in 2001. Up until that year, the two offices had been separate. In this function, Bräcklein was responsible, among other things, for the establishment of Technologiepark Braunschweig GmbH with the aim of attracting high-tech and biotechnology companies. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the fall of the Wall in 1989, Bräcklein supported the Braunschweig twin city of Magdeburg in setting up a modern administration.
