Armen Martirosjan (diplomat)

Armen Martirosjan ( Armenian Արմեն Մարտիրոսյան ; born February 10, 1961 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian politician and diplomat .

He should not be confused with a later member of the National Assembly of the same name.

Life

At the Polytechnic Institute of Yerevan , he graduated from 1978 to 1983 trained as an electrical engineer. He then worked from 1983 to 1987 as a microelectronics engineer for the Armenian company Hrazdanmash . From 1987 to 1990 he headed a youth organization in the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic in Hrasdan . From 1990 to 1999 he was a member of the National Assembly of Armenia , where he was a member of the Committee on Finance and Budget. At the same time he was an advisor to the Armenian Prime Minister from 1991 to 1993. In 1991 he was involved in the establishment of an Armenian agricultural cooperative bank. In 1992 he headed a working group for the drafting of an agreement between Armenia and the European Commission on technical assistance (TACIS) .

From 1993 to 1996 he was the deputy general manager of Hrazdanmash. From 1996 to 1998 he was CEO of Armeconombank . In 1998 he completed training courses at the IMF in Vienna . In 1998 and 1999 he was head of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . Between 1999 and 2003 he was Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister. This was followed by an assignment as a permanent representative of Armenia to the United Nations until 2009 . Between 2004 and 2006, he earned a Masters in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York City . In 2006 he was Vice President of the Economic and Social Commission of the United Nations and in 2007 Vice President of the General Assembly of the United Nations . In 2009 he chaired the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women . From 2009 to 2013 he was his country's ambassador to Germany. After serving as a consultant in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2014 to 2015, he went to India as an ambassador in 2015 . In 2018 he was appointed Armenian Ambassador to Nepal and Sri Lanka at the same time .

Martirosjan is married and has two sons. In addition to Armenian , he also speaks English and Russian .
