Mike Werner (* 1967 ) is a German karateka .

Life

From 1990 Werner Shukokai trained karate with Edmond Horn in Magdeburg . From 1992 he also worked as a trainer himself. In 1993 he stayed in the USA for four weeks and trained with Shihan Kimura , where he also made his first dan . Various other stays followed.

In 1993 he first took part in a world championship in Portugal . Various competitions followed, including many European and world championships. At the European Championships in Switzerland in 1999 , he achieved bronze in the team kumite . In 2001 he achieved bronze in the team kata in Portugal . In 2004 he became German super heavyweight champion in freefight full contact. In the same year he was also world champion in kata at the world championships in Cape Town in South Africa .

In 2005 he became vice European champion in amateur kickboxing at the World Karate and Kickboxing Association in Pressburg , Slovakia . In that year he was also the International German Champion in amateur Thai boxing . This was followed in 2007 by a title as Vice European Champion in the heavyweight kumite in Stockholm in Sweden . At the 2008 World Championships in Zurich , Switzerland, he won bronze in the kata. In Zurich he also passed his 5th Dan.

In 2009 he had further successes on a European level. At the European Championships in Germany he won silver in kumite and bronze in kata. In 2010 he became world champion in kata in Lisbon and achieved silver in kumite. At the 2001 European Championships in Birmingham , he was European champion in kumite and the runner-up in kata.

Werner is chairman of the Kimura Karate Magdeburg e. V.

Awards

In 2010 Werner was allowed to enter the Golden Book of the City of Magdeburg in recognition of his sporting success as a karateka at the World Cup .
